Betla is a prominent tourist destination located in the Latehar district of the Indian state of Jharkhand. It is well-known for the Betla National Park, a protected area and one of India’s first tiger reserves under Project Tiger. Covering an area of approximately 979 square kilometers, this park is notable for its rich biodiversity. The forest is mainly moist deciduous and holds a vast variety of wildlife such as elephants, tigers, leopards, and various species of birds. Betla also features historical attractions like forts believed to date back to the period of the Chero kings. Â
Jeep Safari & Wildlife Spotting
The forest has a rich population: elephants, deer (chital, sambar), bison (gaur), leopards, sometimes tiger tracks.
Elephant Safari
It is an elephant zoo where some female elephants are kept in captivity. For a closer, more immersive forest experience, elephant rides with mahouts are available.
Palamu / Palamu Forts
The historical forts (Old Fort and New Fort) built by Chero kings are inside Betla. They are scenic, show local history, and offer forest-views
Kechki Sangam
